Use a human-centred lens to decide when AI is appropriate, how to make its role transparent, and how to protect fairness and accountability.

• Start with a legitimate purpose — Ask what educational value AI adds before asking whether it can do the task.
• Keep accountability human — Make clear who owns the decision when AI contributes to it.
• Ask who benefits and who carries the risk — Examine whether AI use distributes opportunity, error and burden fairly.
• Make the AI role visible — Use transparency to support trust, accountability and learning rather than as a compliance footnote.
• Match safeguards to the consequence — Use stronger controls for more sensitive, irreversible or consequential AI uses.
