When Not to Use AI
Use learning purpose, productive struggle, authenticity, risk and simplicity to decide when AI should stay out of the task.
- Ask what the task is for — Use the learning purpose to decide whether AI belongs in the activity at all.
- Protect productive struggle — Distinguish unnecessary friction from the effort through which learning develops.
- Keep human moments human — Recognise when relationship, empathy, dialogue or professional presence is part of the value.
- Leave AI out when the risk outweighs the value — Consider sensitivity, consequence and uncertainty before adding AI to a workflow.
- Choose the simplest tool that serves the learning — Avoid AI when a transparent, reliable or non-digital approach does the job better.
